Why Are They Called Plate Placers?

I wanted to design a place mat to go along with my Log Cabin Mug Rugs.

Well mug rugs are actually coasters right - so my Log Cabin Place mats needed a catchy new title as well and that is where I came up with the name Plate Placers.

My Log Cabin Plate Placers finished size is 9 1/2" x 14" but as with mug rugs; plate placers can be any size you want.  They can be completely square - perhaps 8"x8" -  the sizes are endless.

So what do you think of calling place mats "Plate Placers" instead?

I hope to have a Christmas Plate Placer pattern available for purchase in the very near future!

"LOG CABIN PLATE PLACERS" Quilted Placemats E-Pattern

The response to my LOG CABIN Mug Rugs E-Pattern has been wonderful but it has been mentioned several times that a matching placemat e-pattern would be a nice compliment to them - so here it is.

As with the mug rug pattern these "plate placers" as I like to call them, also feature a deer, elk, moose and bear.

Look What's Blooming In My Garden This Week

We have had nothing but miserable weather for the past week and a half; rain, wind, cold and now excessive heat.  My tree peony has been showing it's buds for the last few weeks and started to open slightly over the last couple of days; so imagine my surprise when I looked out my window this morning and saw it in full bloom all at once!

As stated in Better Homes and Gardens Plant Encyclopedia:

Peony

Paeonia selections

Perhaps the best-loved perennials, herbaceous peonies belong in almost every garden. Their sumptuous flowers -- single, semidouble, anemone centered or Japanese, and fully double -- in glorious shades of pinks and reds as well as white and yellow announce that spring has truly arrived. The handsome fingered foliage is usually dark green and remains good-looking all season long. Provide deep rich soil with plenty of humus to avoid dryness, and don't plant the crowns more than 2 inches beneath the surface. But these are hardly fussy plants. Where well suited to the climate, they can thrive on zero care.

Finally Lilacs!

We planted lilac bushes approximately 4 years ago.  I love to see and smell them in the early summer when everything is coming to life!

The first year the plants were still getting established so the blooms were few and far between....

The second year the deer ate the buds off during the Winter so we had no blooms...

The third year the Spring frost killed any flower buds that were looking promising.......

But this year - we have success; the first year where I was able to put a bouquet of lilac flowers in a vase on my table!

Look What's Blooming In My Garden This Week

Despite the frost this past Tuesday that threatened to damage my gardens - my Grape Hyacinths are blooming beautifully.

As stated in Better Homes and Gardens Plant Encyclopedia:

Grape hyacinth

Muscari selections

Grape hyacinths paint the landscape in stunning shades of blue, purple, white, and yellow in spring -- and they add the sweet scent of grape bubblegum to boot. These easy-care bulbs are frequently mass-planted to create a river effect in borders. Their tranquil color scheme is a good background for the gaudier blooms of tulips. These undemanding small bulbs spread easily in any well-drained garden soil. Try the species or special cultivars such as 'Blue Spike' for container plantings or along walkways.

LOG CABIN Mug Rugs E-Patterns

People have been enjoying my original "flower" mug rug e-patterns so I decided to create another. There are so many different mug rug e-patterns out on the Craftsy and Etsy sites so I thought I would try something along the "rustic" side.

This series of mug rug e-patterns is called "LOG CABIN" and featured are a moose, an elk, a deer and a bear.

My Big Sister

Have I told you about my big sister, Linda Walsh?

She is an amazing woman, extremely talented, creative, smart; a little crazy and a fantastic sister!

When I told her I was going to become an Indie Pattern designer and wanted to create frame or quilt fabric wall art designs amongst other things; she jumped right in and offered me TONS of advice and even set up my blogspot for me - Inspired Creations By D.

Then when I told her that my husband Karl and I were going to become alpaca farmers, breeding and selling alpacas along with alpaca fiber products, she again offered TONS of advice and set up the blogspots for them  - Rock Garden Alpacas and Rock Garden Alpacas Fiber

Well you would think that she has all the time in the world to do this but that is the really amazing thing; she is really QUITE busy with her own adventures.  You see, my sister is THE Linda Walsh - and these are some of her sites:

Why am I writing this now - well it is because she has done something amazing at  Linda's Spoonflower.com she has created a fabric line in honor of our alpacas, it is absolutely fantastic!

Take a look at what she has created - just click on the link  My New Alpacas Rock Fabric Collection.

I think you will find she is as amazing as I do!

Look Whats Blooming In My Garden This Week

My Parrot Tulips are in full bloom this week and I absolutely love them.

I am just a little torn - do I create a quilt pattern for this or a needle-felting pattern; maybe I will have to create both and then decide which one to make the pattern out of.....

As stated in Better Homes and Gardens Plant Encyclopedia:

Tulip, parrot hybrids

Tulipa selections

Parrot tulips are flamboyant with their curly, twisted, and fringed petals that resemble the colorful feathers of the tropical bird of the same name. However, their beak-shape buds are what earned them their moniker. Nearly all varieties of parrot tulip are vibrantly colored, and many are two-toned.
Parrot tulips bloom mid- to late season on stems ranging from 12 to 28 inches tall. Their huge blooms do not stand up well in windstorms or rain, so plant them in a sheltered location.

"Sunset Silhouettes"

ICBD007 Sunset Silhouettes E-Pattern
35 1/2” L x 24 1/2” W Frame or Quilt - Fabric Wall Art

I absolutely love this pattern.  I was in Florida visiting my mother-in-law.  My husband and I took her to a park and there was a pond with a dead tree sitting to the side and on the tree were two diving ducks.

I took a picture of them and really liked how they came out silhouetted.  I took the liberty of adding a sunset to my pattern and am really glad I did.

"Sunset Silhouettes" is 20 pages containing a digital picture of the framed fabric wall art, supplies needed and detailed instructions for creating the frame or quilt - fabric wall art; illustrations to guide you along the way, instructions for creating the wood frame, and full size pattern pieces.  Pattern also includes both the forward and reverse pages for easy tracing onto iron-on transfer paper.

Butterfly Trilogy Is A Hit!

I went to "Bag Day" at Sew Nice; the quilt shop that sells my patterns in paper form.  I had delivered her supply of Inspired Creations by D Frame or Quilt Butterfly Trilogy patterns the week before.

Diane greeted me as I approached her by simply saying "we are going to need to duplicate the order from last week".  It seems that all the patterns had sold out in one weeks time; a first for me!  What a wonderful feeling, I just needed to share.

Pretty Pink Cones

ICBD004 Pretty Pink Cones
28” L x 33” W Frame or Quilt  - Fabric Wall Art
Pattern With Framing Instructions

"Pretty Pink Cones" is one of my original frame or quilt - fabric wall art pattern designs. I love how a coneflower is shaped with the pedals hanging downward. I am always delighted when they are flowering in the garden surrounded by other pink, purple and blue flowers.  That was the inspiration for my color choice for this pattern.

"Pretty Pink Cones" is 18 pages containing a digital picture of the framed fabric wall art, supplies needed and detailed instructions for creating the frame or quilt - fabric wall art; illustrations to guide you along the way, instructions for creating the wood frame, and full size pattern pieces.  Pattern also includes both the forward and reverse pages for easy tracing onto iron-on transfer paper.
